What a Wonder!

What a Wonder!

Yesterday’s blessing of the Christ Tower on the Sagrada Família was an exceptional experience to witness-thank God for WiFi! 150 years in the making and the crowing achievement of architect Antonio Gaudi stood just short of the summit of the highest mountain in the area: to give deference to God.

What a wonder that a person would use such exceptional human gifts, yet want them ultimately to point to the giver of all good gifts: God! The reason for the Basilica is to offer worship by fulfilling the command “Do this in memory of me.” And so in such a humble act, beneath this incredible human structure, God becomes flesh for humanity to eat: the Eucharist.

Yet this act and all the acts of Gaudi and Companions (laborers, sculpture, masons, fundraisers, tourists, etc) is to help us see the grandeur of God in all of reality. Gaudi constructed the Basilica to look like a forest. He put animals in the facade carvings and inside the supports shoot upward like the trees of a forest. So much more -one day I pray to see!

I’ve been on vacation in a forest myself. This morning on a walk I found a flower that was captivating for its color and geometry. I looked and looked and looked (through lens 📸) and suddenly it hit me… THIS FLOWER TOP LOOKS LIKE THE TOP OF THE SAGRADA FAMILIA! or more accurately the top of the SF looks like this flower! …giving deference to God as Gaudi intended…right on the forest floor where almost no one sees, this flower had an audience of one! One who was filled with wonder!

No need to go to Barcelona to experience such wonder! Who needs the audience of so many anyway 😉! But if the Creator would make it possible, I’m certainly leaving it on my bucket list. Until then, it’s time to offer Mass and enter the same mystery Pope Leo did yesterday at the altar of the Sagrada Família: What a Wonder!
